IT’S A JOURNEY . . .

Granite Bay Students and Local Artists Showcase at Blue Line

ROSEVILLE, CA, November 16, 2010—This Saturday the Blue Line Gallery will open two exciting new exhibits showcasing the work of eleven Roseville Arts member artists and six advanced art students from Granite Bay High School.

“It’s the Journey Not the Destination” will feature varied interpretations of the artist’s journey in a variety of two- and three-dimensional formats. Sandra Boschert’s largescale painting, “Nostalgic Dream,” explores life’s journey in the figure of a reclining woman gracefully intertwined with the weaving path of a game board. Other featured artists include Grace Bourke, Vincent Deleo, Colleen Giorgi, Kevin Wayne Lloyd, Paul Mitchell, Miriam Morris, Judi Nicholson, Joon Park, Ana Luisa Rincon and Pam Wilkinson.

The paintings of Danielle Johnson, Rebecca Fox, Cayley McDowell, Andrew Streter, Bryson Webb and Alexa Wolf, all advanced art students in Myron Stephens’ class at Granite Bay High School, will also be showcased in an exhibit opening at the Blue Line on Saturday. “My paintings explore the tension between wonderful dreams and the issues within everyday life,” said Johnson. Focusing on themes of freedom, change and identity, her creative narratives reveal natural landscapes and figures contrasted with abstract or pop art elements.

Live guitar and percussion music will be provided by Dorian Rohlfes and Sean Raeside of Rocklin. Curator's Note - November 2010

My husband Larry and I enjoyed a visit (my first) to Las Vegas this past weekend and had a great time, even as we gained a new appreciation for the Blue Line Gallery. We spent one day hiking up and down the strip, side tripping into each of the major casinos to catch summary impressions of their grandiloquent, individual personalities. We searched out the Dale Chihuly glass installations and enjoyed rare moments of quiet at the Bellagio’s fine art gallery--even found a David A. Carter pop-up book in their gift shop! Finally, we escaped into one amazing, not–to-be-missed show—Cirque du Soleil ‘s “The Beatles:  LOVE.” After this adventure in sensory overload, I return to the Blue Line with new appreciation for its calm, clean space and the opportunity it offers to focus on one thing (or two or three) at a time!

Thankfully, you can join us for just the right amount of sensory stimulation here at the Blue Line in November. To catch the complementary threesome (“Black & White” and “Mask Invitational,” along with the Chris Daubert installation) in tact, be sure to visit before November 13.

Daubert’s “Transfiguration” installation, I’ve decided, is nothing but magical! Seventy-five 2nd graders discovered that last week as they toured the gallery. If you saw the installation early on, you are in for a treat this month as the work is completed and the 4500 corresponding nodules on each of the three walls harmonize into a delightful symphony of movement, sound a light!

Not to miss is Daubert’s lecture this Thursday evening (Nov 4, 7pm) on “Site-specific Installations.” It promises to be informative and well delivered, with the additional chance to see the magic at work after dark.

3rd Saturday, November 20th, will reveal a whole new list of sensory experience at the Blue Line Gallery. We participate for our second year in the city’s Holiday Parade, 3-5pm, on Vernon Street. Festivities continue with a 6pm tree lighting on Vernon and activities for families until 8pm. The gallery will roll out its free children’s art activities, 1-4pm, plus cookie decorating, 6-7pm. Last but not least, our 3rd Saturday reception will introduce enticing new exhibits in the Member’s and Children’s galleries:  “It’s the Journey Not the Destination” and a showcase of work by advanced art students at Granite Bay High School.

And don’t forget to get your tickets now for our December 5th Green Tea and Fashion Spree event-- bigger and better than ever this year!

Mark your calendars . . . and I’ll see you at the Blue Line soon!

A Journey of Hope: Rob on the Road visits Gayle Rappaport-Weiland

KVIE’s Rob Stewart, host of Rob on the Road, has admired Gayle’s expertise and commitment to the arts. Rob's plan of visiting Gayle’s studio was timed perfectly to film the Breast Cancer project in which she was involved. Rob on The Road features Gayle Rappaport – Weiland and Gini Crepps talking about how they joined forces and were selected by SOUTH PLACER ART IN PUBLIC PLACES to create a special piece of art utilizing an approximate 6’ tall Breast Cancer Ribbon. Gayle received the OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS, and in a quiet moment, it came to her that this project was about collaboration. Gini Crepps was a survivor, student and graphic artist that Gayle knew was the teammate in which she was supposed to connect. Their theme: Soul Survivor…Symbol of Hope; was an outreach to the local community and beyond for memorabilia of survivors and friends. These artists shared the belief that this cause was about awareness and not personal gain. They lived this project through tears, laughter and hope. Rob will now bring this extraordinary project to your home on Rob on the Road, currently airing on KVIE. South Placer Art in Public Places, a nonprofit charitable corporation, hosted its inaugural Art in Public Places Tour to bring awareness to the fight against breast cancer and the importance of art in the community. Soul Survivor… Symbol of Hope Ribbon has already been sponsored by Go Girl Energy Drink by Nor Cal Beverage. The ribbon was sold to a local school in Folsom. The Children raised the money in one day by selling bracelet’s to honor one of their teachers who lost her battle with breast cancer.
