YOUNG ARTISTS TAKE AWARDS

7th Annual Exhibit Showcases Kids’ Art Celebrating Cultural Diversity

ROSEVILLE, Calif., August 18, 2009—Scores of excited young artists and their families filled the Blue Line Gallery’s exhibition halls on Saturday evening in anticipation of an awards presentation and the opening of “The Colors of Culture,” Roseville Arts’ annual Children’s Open Show.

Guests arrived early to view the exhibit and to enjoy reception fare including artistically displayed fruit contributed by Edible Arrangements of Roseville. Local artist, teacher and the award juror, Melanie Slade Haas, selected nine young artists to receive awards during the event, including 1st and 2nd place awards in four age categories and one Best of Show: Ryan Fang, age 9, from Roseville. First Place award winners are Alecia Clark, Roseville; Cheyenne Owens, Auburn; Reesa Eliza Artz, Sacramento; and Kieran Taber, Granite Bay. Second Place winners are Shane Ures, Sacramento; Ivy Tillich, Sacramento; Tate Tillich, Sacramento; and Zachery Whitehead, Rocklin. All participating artists received ribbons, and award winners received gift certificates for art supplies.

“The Colors of Culture” features the work of 36 young artists, ages 5-12, each responding to the theme of cultural diversity in their own unique paintings, drawings and sculpture. The public is invited to view the exhibit for free at the Blue Line Gallery through November 14. This exhibition is generously supported by NEC Electronics America, Inc. and the Union Pacific Foundation.
