Irv Marcus: "Storytelling"
The Blue Line Gallery is proud present, "Storytelling"  by Irv Marcus.  Marcus' large paintings and drawings are masterpieces of color and characters that will tickel everyone's fancy. His wild colors and figures make up a narrative that draws the viewer into the work.

Irv Marcus was born May 17, 1929, in Minneapolis, Minnesota and educated at the Univ. of Minnesota, (BA) and the Univ of Iowa, (MFA). Professor at Sacramento State (Chairman Art Dept, (1966 1969) from 1959-1991.

Irv has had more then forty solo exhibitions in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, St Louis, Carmel, New York Portland, Sacramento and other cities.

He also participated in over 75 group exhibitions at museums and galleries including the Metropolitan Mus, NYC, Brooklyn Mus, Denver Mus, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis Mus of Art, St Louis City City Art Mus, Library of Congress, San Francisco Mus of Art, Legion of Art, SF, Laguna Beach Art Mus, Luz Mus, Manila and Museums in Rio De Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Tokyo.
 Numerous art reviews and monographs about his work have been included art magazines, newspapers and catalogs such as Art in America, Art Forum, Art News and Los Angeles Times. Critic Thomas Albright in the SF Chronicle described Marcus as an "extraordinary artist with an profoundly personal vision".

His works are included in many permanent collections. A partial list includes Minneapolis Inst of Art, Allen Art Mus Crocker Art Gallery, Reed College, Butler Mus of Am Art, Oakland Art Mus, Yale Univ Art Mus, De Young Mus, San Jose Mus of Art, Haines Gallery, and South Texas Mus of Art.

Irv was also the recipient of grants from the Rockefeller Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
