ART AND THE INMATE
What can we learn?
Carlson is an art educator who has taught in California State Prisons for 25 years. He will share his experience working with inmates at New Folsom, supported by video interviews and examples of inmate poetry, music and visual art. Carlson will explore not only the realities of the inmate’s personal journeys and prison culture, but also the remarkable qualities of redemption and rehabilitation they have gained through their exposure to the arts.
“Jim’s presentation is both informative and inspirational,” said Beth Rohlfes, Curator at the Blue Line Gallery. “His examples of his student’s art, music and poetry attest to the remarkable ability the arts have to reclaim lives.”
