ARTISTS WIN $2000 IN AWARDS
Blue Line Gallery Reception Boasts a Full House

ROSEVILLE, Calif., February 25, 2010—The lively buzz of nearly 400 guests celebrating the opening of the Blue Line Gallery’s 33rd Annual National Open Show all but drowned out the blues guitar rhythms of Eddie and the Mountain Sprouts at the gallery’s 3rd Saturday reception. But the crowd was there to mingle and speculate as they eagerly awaited announcements of who would win the prized $2000 in cash awards.

The suspense was broken at 8:00 p.m. when Juror Shelly Willis and Curator Beth Rohlfes presented the coveted $1000 Best of Show Award to Candice Bohannon of Applegate, for her oil painting, “Dementia.”  A second entry by Bohannon, a pencil drawing titled “Despair of a Ravaged Mind” was also praised by the juror. “I didn’t know which to honor, so this really goes to both,” announced Willis as she presented Bohannon with her award.

Willis praised the artists for their dedication and fine work and continued the awards with a $500 Special Judge’s Award to Omar Thor Arason, Sacramento.  $100 Merit Awards went to David Mooney, Grass Valley; John Tarahteeff, Sacramento; and t. s. Linzey, Citrus Heights.  $50 Honorable Mention Awards were presented to Bar Schacterman, Fair Oaks; Barry Focha, Roseville; Dewane Hughes, Troup, Texas; Hall Jameson, Helena, Montana; James R. Hirschinger, Loomis;  Julio Reyes, Applegate; and Steve Kellison, Davis.

Willis is Art in Public Places Program Director for the city and county of Sacramento. She selected 62 works for the exhibit from 655 submitted from across the U.S. and abroad.
