SUMMER CAMP FUN FOR BUDDING ARTISTS
Blue Line Gallery Introduces Children’s Art Camps

ROSEVILLE, Calif., May 24, 2010 – The Blue Line Gallery is rolling out a summer full of art camps for children and youth.

Summer workshops taught by professionally trained artists will introduce children, ages 5 ½ - 16, to everything from painting and ceramics to decorative bookbinding and poetry.  Each class will culminate in an artists reception celebrating the addition of the young artists’ work to an ongoing summer exhibition. Options in class length and frequency provide flexibility for family schedules and budgets. More information can be found at www.rosevillearts.org.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS
Bill Reed was trained at the Chouinard Art Institute In Los Angeles. His 40 year animation career included stints with Disney Studio, Filmation, Hana-Barbera, MGM and work on hundreds of animated television shows as animator and director. Reed will teach two sessions to youth, ages 9-16, on how to draw cartoon characters.

Susan Frank has been teaching art for 30 years, most recently at St. Alban’s School in Roseville, also at Roseville public schools and the city’ Parks and Recreation Department.  She has a degree from California College of the Arts in Oakland and a teaching credential from UC Davis. Frank will be teaching beginning drawing, painting and ceramics classes for ages 5 ½ - 8, with a variety of fun themes.

Linda Green is a professional artist who describes her work as ”a series of fictional portraits exploring dreams, wishes and curiosity.” Linda can be found working on her bold, primary paintings at her studio in the Arts building in Auburn, where she teaches classes and is Artists-in Residence.  Green will be teaching drawing and painting classes for ages 12-16, “Desserts! Colorful and Delicious” and “As You See It.”

John Bowman is a poet, writer and former editor and publisher of the Roseville press-Tribune. His gentle and emphatic style will inspire participants to reach inside and connect with the poet they always have with in them.  Bowman will teach several sessions of “Poetry Word Bowl” (ages 10-14) and “Paint Me a Poem” (ages 6-9).

Jim Carroll earned his teaching credential in Art after working for 20 years in the high tech industry. With a strong background in both science and art, Jim brings unique skill and artistic passion to his book-binding class. Carroll will teach youth, ages 11--16, how to make and create textured book covers, hand stitch the binding and customize pages for mixed media journals.

Maha Salem earned her BA and MFA degrees from Universities in Egypt and has taught free lance art classes in the U.S. since 1995. Her work shows a mastery of texture, color and shape in bold paintings that the artists says, “come from the inside out.” Salem will teach children, ages 7-12, to paint in the styles of master artists Picasso, Van Gogh and Georgia O’Keefe.

Gayle Streff earned his BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Illinois. His cartoon The Fishbowl was published in The Placer Herald and Aquarium Fish Magazine. Gayle currently works primarily in digital photography. His workshop will step youth, ages 11-16, through the process of creating a comic story, including character and story development and creating the final artwork.
